Research and Planning

One of the things that we learnt about research and planning was the importance of having somebody on set to log all costume changes and props.  In our opening sequence Lewis was playing the role of the protagonist, the boyfriend and band member whose girlfriend is dying.  He appears in 3 scenes.  However, he was wearing the same t-shirt in scenes which were meant to represent different timelines.  In retrospect, we should not have done this.

Our planning could have been in more detail for our use of equipment as we faced some technical difficulties when recording using the cameras. We weren't experienced in using the microphone attachments to the camera which we should have planned to test them before. This then resulted in us having to film again which then meant that we were delayed to film other parts meaning that we had to re-plan certain parts.

Another skill we developed in planning was set-dressing.  As our script involved a number of locations (hospital, chat show and restaurant scenes) we either needed access to these places or had to recreate them ourselves.  Despite trying to get access to a hospital filming location we were refused (due to cost) so we used our creativity to get round the problem. We researched into key factors of each location that the audience would recognise as being in that location so that we could try and access the props. We did this by watching films and tv.  We dressed a backstage dressing room in school with a mattress, a drip and a sheet to make it look like a hospital bed.  We shot the scene in a tight mid shot so that it was easier to disguise the location.
