Roland Bathes Codes Theory

Roland barthes is a semiotician who came up with the code theory. There are 5 codes which are woven into any narrative.

The film Nostalgia has an element of the Hermeneutic code as it avoids telling the audience how or why melody is in the film. Another point where this code occurs is on the Nicole show where one of the members of the band walks off and the audience are unsure of the reason. This code occurs on the Nicole show when the audience don't hear the band members answer the questions asked because they see flashbacks instead. Another point is when the band member walks off the stage as the audience want to find out why he has which builds tension.
The semantic code is applied to the film Nostalgia as of the kiss, holding hands and giving of a present is a connotation of the two characters are in love.
From the connotations of love, on a wider level, shows how love affects people lives on a big scale.
Cultural code shows young people as being dramatic and don't want to face the truth. They are trying to mature by dealing with the issue of death. It also shows how young people are easily affected by love as they are considered reckless.
